THEIA Project

For NASA’s THEIA Project, I partnered with the team to create a strong visual identity that helped secure funding for their research. They needed a logo and presentation templates that could clearly convey the sophistication and potential of their work which is to develop a compact light-field camera capable of capturing images at every depth, designed for use on satellites, rovers, and other exploratory equipment. My role was to translate their complex scientific vision into compelling visuals that communicated innovation, clarity, and credibility to stakeholders.

Research

To support the design process, I conducted in-depth research on light-field camera technology to fully understand the science behind the project. I learned how these cameras capture and process different wavelengths of light to generate images with both the foreground and background in sharp focus. This knowledge allowed me to design visuals and messaging that not only looked compelling but also accurately reflected the innovation and potential impact of the THEIA camera for space exploration.

My Approach & Contributions

After researching NASA’s previous mission logos, I began by creating a template that was consistent with the look and feel of the previous mission logos.

Then I started sketching concepts that illustrated both the function and the potential applications of the light-field camera. I explored diagrams showing how light passes through multiple lenses to create a fully focused image, then translated those visual ideas into images that represent the function, potential, and uses of the light-field camera.

By combining scientific accuracy with strong design principles, I created a logo that captured the essence of the THEIA project while remaining versatile and memorable for presentations and future branding.

The Results

THEIA logo

The NASA team ultimately selected the lens-and-light sketch as the final logo, featuring an array of lenses in the background to symbolize the technology’s depth and precision. They were not only pleased with the outcome but also energized to have professional, cohesive branding and presentation materials that elevated their message. These resources played a key role in helping the team clearly communicate their vision and secure the funding needed to move their mission forward.

I am impressed with the professionalism and execution of the project by this team. Highly efficient, easy to communicate with and definitely know their craft. Thanks for an incredible result

To complement the logo, I designed a presentation template that carried the same visual language into the team’s funding pitch. Using the light-field diagram and color scheme from the logo, I built a cohesive look that reinforced the project’s identity across every slide. The template balanced scientific diagrams with clean, modern layouts, making the technical content easier to follow while ensuring the overall presentation felt professional, unified, and visually engaging.
